Pipe organ rings out in Mere during one-off return by organist Nick Hedley

THE sweet sound of a pipe organ returned to Mere on Sunday (November 26).

St Michael’s Church was lifted by the sound thanks to organist Nick Hedley, who played it for a one-off service.

“It was a wonderful sound to hear,” said George Jeans, of Mere. “For many years now an electronic organ has been used.”

Nick was married at St Michael’s and played the organ in the time of the Rev Ben Elliot, George said.

“It was also announced at the service, a new vicar for Mere would now be advertised for, this had recently been agreed by the bishop,” he added.

“St Michael’s as a church would need pay about £50,000 a year to the wider church for this to happen. It was felt this was possible.”
