New partnership aims to boost jobs, skills and wellbeing

COUNCILS across Dorset have joined forces with the NHS and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to launch a new plan aimed at helping more people into work and training.

Dorset Council, BCP Council, NHS Dorset and the DWP have unveiled the Get Dorset & BCP Working Plan, described as a joint commitment to improve access to employment support while recognising the link between good health and work.

The plan brings together organisations that support residents into jobs or training.

It also focuses on removing barriers for people with health conditions and helping young people gain the skills needed for employment.

Partners say closer working will make it easier for residents to find the right support and help build what they describe as a “fairer, healthier and more resilient Dorset”.

Dorset Council’s cabinet member for economic growth, Cllr Richard Biggs, said: “This is a very important piece of work that will ensure, by working together, we can support residents across Dorset into work or training.

“The plan is about making sure everyone has the chance to thrive — by connecting health, skills, and employment support in a way that works for local people.

“It’s one of our key priorities to help grow the local economy and upskilling the local workforce is key to achieving that.”

BCP Council leader Cllr Millie Earl said the partnership would change how employment support is delivered across the area

“By working in partnership with Dorset Council, NHS Dorset, and DWP we’re rethinking how people access employment support across our communities.

“The ambition is bold: delivering better and faster support, bringing more people into good jobs, and enabling residents across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to develop high-demand skills.

“I am delighted to be working alongside our partners, and for the support of Dorset Chamber in helping bring us together, so that we can turn aspiration into action.

“Collaborative working is at the heart of this plan and will deliver real change and better outcomes that put communities first.”
