Milborne Port homes and businesses connected to super-fast broadband

AROUND 900 people in the Milborne Port area can now access super-fast broadband.

Engineers are set to complete work to extend full-fibre connections to the village this month (November).

Telecoms company Gigaclear has been working from street to street to extend its network from Castle Cary using fibre optic cables, either digging new trenches or using existing infrastructure such as poles and ducting to reach each property.

Senior project manager, Lynnette Rowland, said the firm was working hard to ensure rural, often hard-to-reach villages such as Milborne Port – and neighbouring Templecombe and Henstridge – can access the same fast and reliable full fibre broadband enjoyed by larger urban areas.

“Taking our full fibre to rural communities that might otherwise have copper or an inferior part fibre broadband connection fundamentally changes them for the better because it creates choice for the people in those communities about how they work and how they live their lives,” she said.
