Man assaulted with baseball bat after car mounts kerb

POLICE are investigating a report of dangerous driving, threats and assault with a baseball bat in Poundbury.

Officers received a report of a disturbance at 7.23pm on Friday, January 23 in Corston Street.

A white pick-up truck had driven onto the pavement before three people got out and approached a man and a woman.

One of the occupants from the vehicle was reported to be in possession of a baseball bat and allegedly struck the male pedestrian on the arm.

He required hospital treatment for bruising and swelling to the arm.

A 32-year-old man from the Dorchester area was arrested on suspicion of threats to damage property, making threats to kill, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and dangerous driving.

He has been released on police bail as further enquiries are carried out.

The arrested man and the victims are reported to be known to each other.

PC Nathan Wright, of Dorchester Police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.

“I would also urge residents in the area with home CCTV systems or doorbell cameras, as well as motorists with dashcam who were in the vicinity at the relevant time, to please review their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.”
