PEDESTRIANS in Gillingham are being advised that Buckingham Road footbridge will be closed for up to four weeks.
The footbridge, linking Buckingham Road to Chantry, will be closed for essential maintenance work starting Monday, January 19.
Dorset Council has confirmed that the routine works will involve replacing the deck boards and parapets, as well as removing the timber cladding on the outside of the bridge beams.
The closure is expected to last for up to four weeks with the footbridge off-limits 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
No access will be permitted during evenings or weekends while the work is carried out.
Residents are encouraged to plan alternative routes during this period, and Dorset Council has advised that safety is the primary concern, ensuring the bridge remains fully secure during the maintenance.

Gillingham Town Council will provide updates as the work progresses and thanks the public for their patience while the essential repairs are completed.
