LETTER: ‘I’m fed up with people moaning about the loss of their fuel allowance’

I AM an 84-year-old pensioner and I get fed up with people moaning about the loss of their Winter Fuel Allowance.

They can apply for it and if they qualify, then they will get it.

A few weeks ago, I was in a small restaurant with friends and one of them said, in a loud voice, “I think it’s disgusting that the new Chancellor has stopped our fuel allowance because I relied on that every year to purchase Christmas presents for the whole of my family”.

I’m a Sagittarian and speak my mind wherever I am, but on this occasion I kept quiet, so as not to upset others who were enjoying their lunches. But I really wanted to shout out, “The fuel allowance is given to us to pay for our electric, gas, solid fuel, oil etc to heat our homes, not for the purchase of presents”!

And I’m sure many of your readers will agree with me.
