Last chance to apply for community grants of up to £25,000

COMMUNITY groups across Dorset are being urged to act fast as the deadline approaches for a major council fund designed to help bring local projects to life.

Applications for Dorset Council’s Capital Leverage Fund (CLF) Round 6 close at midnight on January 15, and organisers say it could be a crucial opportunity for not-for-profit organisations struggling to secure the upfront investment needed to get projects off the ground.

The fund supports capital projects that create new or improved community facilities, offering grants of between £1,000 and £25,000.

While the funding can cover up to 20% of total project costs, applicants are given up to two years to secure the remaining 80% before the grant is released – a structure designed to help unlock larger pots of external funding.

A wide range of projects are eligible, from renovating village halls and community buildings to creating new play areas, car parks and multi-use games areas.

The fund can also be used for upgrades to theatres, sports clubs and pitches, as well as improvements to landscaping and access.

In addition, Dorset Council is encouraging applications that support climate change initiatives, arts, culture and heritage projects, accredited museums and sports development.

Cultural organisations must demonstrate how their proposals align with both council priorities and Dorset’s Cultural Strategy.

However, groups already holding an award from a previous round of the CLF will not be eligible to apply again until their current project is completed.

Final assessments for this round are expected to take place around January 27, with decisions communicated in February.

Dorset Council has stressed that applications must be submitted using the online form and that late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Community groups unsure whether their project qualifies are encouraged to seek advice before applying.

Support is available by emailing communities@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk for community projects, or leisure@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk for culture-focused proposals.
