Hundreds of homes hit by power cuts overnight and into this morning

HUNDREDS of homes remain without power following overnight storms in Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire.

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks says 426 properties are being affected in the BA12 postcode area – which includes the Sutton Veny area – following rain and thunder overnight. Engineers are understood to be on the scene now, repairing damage to the “overhead network”.

Properties in the WIncanton, Mere and other areas were affected overnight, it is understood, though power has been restored to most.

“The cause of this power cut is a fault on our overhead network,” a spokesperson said. “This is the most common type of fault we see and our teams are very experienced in dealing with these issues.

“We are working with our engineers to fix the problem as quickly as possible,” they added.
