Are you a lover of all things pre-loved? Is rustic modern your thing? The value of antiques and collectables shifted enormously during lockdown, when reinventing our home, and the hope of discovering a handsome heirloom amidst a clear out, meant online auctions became part of the Zoom boom with sales increasing by as much as 90%.
You’ll be excited to hear that Acreman St Antiques Auction in Sherborne have a unique textile, fashion and apparel auction on 20 May, of original vintage designs from the 40s, through to the 90s. Included in the sale is a long green 70s wool coat by designer Darla Jane Gilroy, worn in a David Bowie music video. There will also be a chance to bid on classic Chinese silk kimonos, vintage jackets, rolls of furnishing fabrics, eiderdowns, and patchwork quilts on offer, plus a beautiful, antique Venetian altar cloth made from fabric remnants bequeathed to the church.
Entries are also being accepted for the general antiques and collectors sale that takes place at the end of the month. Should you need any advice about items you may wish to sell, Acreman St Antiques is happy to make home visits and can arrange house clearances at a competitive rate.
