Firefighters battle bailer fire that ‘spread across field’ near Blandford

A BAILER caught fire in a Dorset field – with firefighters tackling the blaze and preventing it spreading.

Crews from Blandford, Dorchester and Poole were sent to Chescombe Lane, Whiterborne Whitechurch, at around 7.05pm on Tuesday (September 5).

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said crews arrived when the fire ‘began spreading across a field’.

“Firefighters entered the risk area using two hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire and worked to removed burning straw from the bailer to a safe location,” they added.
