Family Fun Day will mark re-opening of troubled £10m Wincanton care home

A WINCANTON care home will open its doors with a Family Fun Day next month.

The Bridles Bupa Care Home, off Dyke’s Way, is inviting people of all ages to visit on Saturday, May 2, ahead of an official opening to residents on May 13.

The event will run from noon to 5pm and give visitors the chance to explore the new home and meet members of The Bridles team, as well as acting as a thank you to the community after months of work on the home.

Home manager, Ray Arnold, said: “The team and I are very much looking forward to welcoming our residents, and their families, while meeting new faces, and beginning to build some strong and lasting relationships with members of the local community.

“It will be a fantastic day with live music, arts and crafts activities and refreshments for all.”

Live swing and jive performances from Slim Jim & The Wild Cards will take place between 1pm and 2.30pm, and from Harry James between 3pm and 4.30pm, featuring music from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

Meanwhile, Feathered Occasions – an animal experience and education provider – will join the celebration so guests can meet a collection of owls.

The day comes after a long-troubled evolution for the care home building, a £10 million custom-built facility that lay empty after the initial occupier – who only welcomed a handful of patients – closed it down.

Bupa bought the property and has been refurbishing it since, which is now nearing completion, and the firm said it hopes it will be the “beginning of the home having an active and welcoming presence in the local area”.
