Dramatic footage appears to show cars vandalised in Gillingham street: Watch

DRAMATIC footage appears to show a vandal targeting cars in a Gillingham street – after a number of vehicles were damaged in a late-night incident.

Residents along Octave Terrace, in Queen Street, were shocked to find their vehicles were damaged after an incident at around 11.15pm on Saturday, May 9.

Police are investigating the damage, which one resident said would cost an estimated £1,600 to repair, after a sharp object was run down the length of their car.

And residents checking CCTV footage have unearthed what appears to be a person sliding their hand along one of the vehicles damaged.

“The quote I’ve had to put it right is £1,600, which isn’t the sort of money most people have spare,” the victim said.

“I’m also hesitant to get it fixed in case it just happens again.

“Although it’s only a car, it took me six years to be in a position to buy it and it’s only four months old.

“I’ve also only moved into my house here a few months ago, so it very much feels as though someone’s mindless, cowardly behaviour has taken the joy out of both the car and the house move.

“I think everyone on the street feels the same – if you walk up or down the street the majority of cars around have been damaged.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said no arrests had been made in the investigation.

“It is reported that between 11.15pm and 11.30pm on Saturday, May 9, damage was caused to a number of vehicles in Queen Street in Gillingham,” they said.

“The incident was reported to Dorset Police on Monday, May 11. Enquiries will be carried out. No arrests have been made at this time.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on 101, reference 55260074084. They can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
