Community input sought as Shaftesbury council prepares 2026–27 budget

SHAFTESBURY Town Council is inviting residents to play a direct role in shaping next year’s precept at an upcoming public budget meeting.

The session will give a clear overview of the draft 2026-27 budget and explain how the council allocates the precept – the portion of council tax that funds town council services.

Councillors will be on hand to talk residents through proposed spending, answer questions and outline future plans, including how the precept is calculated.

The meeting marks a key stage in the annual budget process.

Feedback gathered on the night will be considered before councillors finalise the budget early next year.

The town council says it wants to ensure its priorities reflect the needs of the community and is encouraging residents to have their say.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 16 from 6pm to 7pm at the Town Hall on High Street. Refreshments will be available.
