Classic car event raised more than £50,000 for charities

SUPERCARS revved up in Sherborne over the summer raised more than £52,000 for charity, it has been announced.

A presentation evening held at Sherborne Castle revealed the July Classic and Supercar event at the venue in July raised £52,500 for 20 organisations.

Chair of the organisers’ trustees of the charity, Neil Bright, presented donations to charities and confirmed the total now raised by the event cumulatively is £463,500.

It is hoped the total will breach the £500,000 mark at the next event, on Sunday, July 26 next year.

Charities benefitting on the night included Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Dorset and Yeovil Hospitals, Childrens Hospice South West, and YFW Bloodbikes.

Chair of the organising committee, Rory O’Donnell, thanked show presidents Mr and Mrs Wingfield Digby for allowing the continued use of the Sherborne Castle grounds for the event, as well as sponsors, in particular the main sponsors Atkins Ferrie Wealth Management and Porter Dodson, whose financial support helped cover a sizeable proportion of the setting up costs.

He said delivering the event would not be possible without volunteers from Rotary, Round Table, Lions and Friends of the Event giving thousands of hours free of charge to plan, set up and deliver the meet.

A great event, and I’m delighted that the team at Supercars could support Home-Start Blackmore Vale with our work with local families. Bravo!
