A report from Motcombe Primary School, Shaftesbury on World Book Day, March 3
Despite the weather not being on our side this year, we still managed to enjoy some outdoor reading. Some of our older year groups shared stories with the younger children in the morning and all of the classes enjoyed a variety of class-based activities linked to reading and books.
The afternoon was where the fun started. We had a huge parade in the playground with each year group walking around the playground to take time to look at the assortment of book characters. We certainly had some wonderful costumes this year!
Then, KS2 went into the hall to take part in Motcombe’s first ever ‘Rap Battle’. Each class, across the school, made up a rap about their favourite class book. We then took it in turns to perform our raps to each other.
Lots of fun was had and KS2 really excelled themselves with their poetic ability. From Robinson Crusoe to Little Badman and the Killer Aunties, so many wonderful texts were explored through rap.
Then it was KS1’s turn and even our youngest Reception children took part, rapping about the ‘Bear hunt’. The children left the hall with huge smiles on their faces having enjoyed a wonderful day of literary excitement.
