Blandford United bids to extend clubhouse as support grows

BLANDFORD United FC is looking to extend its clubhouse as support grows.

The football club has applied to Dorset Council for permission to enlarge the building, at the recreation ground in Park Road.

The plans would see the building accommodate a skittles alley and give more space to host ‘family-friendly parties’.

“Over the last few seasons, BUFC has attracted a lot more spectators for every match
and this is the main reason for these alterations,” the application said.

“There is also need to raise more funds and increasing the size of the clubhouse will mean it can accommodate a skittle alley and also host more family-friendly parties, such as children’s parties.”

Bi-fold doors would also be installed on one side of the building as part of the plans, and a pergola built to cover fans watching matches.

“At the moment, when you are inside the clubhouse you cannot see out and watch the
football, there is only a letterbox window, it is proposed to turn this into bi-fold doors which will enable spectators to watch from inside and also for the doors to be opened in the summer to create more space,” the plans said.

“The existing concrete hardstanding outside the clubhouse is proposed to be covered
by the pergola … giving cover in the winter months so that spectators can be
protected from the weather.”
