Arts charity connecting communities unveils fundraising drive

A DORSET charity described as a “cultural lifeline” for rural communities is set to double donations for one week only as part of a national arts fundraising drive.

Artsreach, now in its 36th year of bringing professional performances and creative projects to village halls and community spaces across the county, has been selected to take part in the 2026 Big Give: Arts for Impact campaign.

From midday on March 17 to midday on March 24, every pound donated to Artsreach through the Big Give platform will be matched – meaning supporters’ contributions will go twice as far.

For more than three decades, the charity has partnered with volunteers to stage a diverse programme of live shows, workshops and community arts projects in the heart of rural Dorset.

Organisers say the events do far more than entertain – they help tackle rural and social isolation, boost wellbeing and create opportunities for people of all ages to come together.

One audience member said: “Artsreach is a cultural lifeline, a rare chance to connect with an audience and experience something different in our rural communities where cultural offers are few and far between.”

Each year, more than 11,000 adults and children attend Artsreach events.

Dorset communities also retain more than £32,000 annually through ticket sales and local fundraising – income that helps keep village halls and rural venues viable.

Another supporter described it as: “A brilliant charity. Let’s keep it going as it has huge benefits for so many villages throughout rural Dorset.”

Artsreach Director Kerry Bartlett said: “Artsreach remains committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of where they live, can experience the joy and connection that arts and cultural events bring.

“Taking part in the Big Give campaign provides an exciting opportunity for our supporters to make double the impact at a time when it matters most.”

Donations can be made via the Artsreach Big Give: Arts for Impact campaign page between March 17 and 24.
