Advice for Dorset patients as resident doctors go on strike over pay

PATIENTS are being urged not to delay urgent or emergency care – despite a strike by resident doctors, which was due to start today (July 25).

The British Medical Association (BMA) previously announced strike action running from 7am today until 7am on Wednesday, July 30, amid a dispute over pay.

A spokesperson for the Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said: “Our (resident) doctors are vital for patient care and the running of our hospital services. During their industrial action, we will be prioritising urgent care and will be doing all we can to minimise the need to postpone planned appointments.

“We will contact you if your appointment needs to be changed. If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

“No-one should put off seeking urgent or emergency care during the strikes and people with serious, life-threatening conditions will continue to be seen at our Emergency Department (ED).

“However, please only use 999 and our ED for life-threatening emergencies.”

People are urged to call 111 for other urgent care needs, or to visit the Stay Well Dorset website for more information and support.
