‘Adapted’ e-bike seized near Dorchester – with rider caught with no insurance

AN adapted e-bike will now be destroyed by police after officers spotted it on a road near Dorchester.

The bike, spotted on Burton Road in Charminster yesterday morning (September 9) was modified to the point where it no longer had pedals to propel it and is now subsequently classed as a moped.

It was also being ridden on a pavement, with no L plates and the rider was not wearing a helmet.

The force said the bike will now be destroyed.

Police said the rider is known to them after previously being stopped by officers.

He was reported for a number of traffic offences, including driving with no insurance and for being otherwise in accordance with their driving licence.

A spokesperson said: “Sadly this isn’t the first time this male has been stopped by the Neighbourhood Policing Team and he will appear in court at a later date for both stop checks.”
