Improved bus connectivity between Bridport, Beaminster and Yeovil

BUS users in west Dorset will be able to more easily travel between Bridport, Beaminster and Yeovil thanks to improved transport links.

Dorset Council has announced changes to the CR6 bus service that are coming into place this Saturday, May 31, which will see the service operate six days a week.

As part of the improvements funded by central government, the CR6 bus will now operate on Saturdays.

The 1710 service from Bridport, which previously terminated at Beaminster, will now continue on to Yeovil. This was partly funded by Somerset Council.

Dorset Council said these changes will allow residents to spend the day in Bridport or Yeovil and return conveniently, improving access to shopping, leisure, and essential services.

Councillor Derek Beer, chair of the Dorset Council Bus User Group, welcomed the improvements.

“Reliable and accessible transport is vital for our communities, and I am delighted to see the CR6 service extended to six days a week,” he said.

“This enhancement will provide residents with greater flexibility, whether for work, leisure, or essential travel.

“Dorset Council remains committed to improving transport connectivity, ensuring that rural areas are well-served and linked to key destinations.”

These changes align with Dorset Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, which aims to enhance public transport accessibility, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and support sustainable travel.

The council said it continues to work closely with First Bus to ensure the CR6 route remains a ‘socially necessary core route’, serving the needs of local residents.

This is lovely to know though some buses around Yeovil are non existent or a long time . Like a number 11 and number 68 ,also now the number 51 is extremely packed , this is all very difficult especially for the disabled and elderly .
I’m disabled and I can get to my surgery but cannot get home as it’s a two hour wait , because the number 11 discontinued for good .It seems now that going further away from Yeovil to shop is better but isn’t the Yeovil going to look better but cost a fortune for all of us ?
