Man made off in van after trying to hitch a lift near Blandford

A MAN tried to hitch a lift in Blandford before making off with a van, police said.

The incident occurred at around 1.10pm on Monday (July 20), when Dorset Police said a man was walking in the Salisbury Road area, toward Lidl, trying to hitch a lift.

“The man then got into an unoccupied white Ford Transit van in Shaftesbury Lane and drove away at speed,” a spokesperson said.

“He is described as wearing light-coloured shorts, a dark-coloured T-shirt and a large rucksack.”

Police Sergeant Mia Jakeman, of the Rural Crime Team, added: “I am appealing to any motorists who were driving in the area and may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam to please get in touch.”
