SHERBORNE Abbey CofE Primary School has been praised by inspectors.
A report issued after a recent Ofsted inspection recognised the school’s “strong culture of inclusion, personal development and high expectations for all pupils”.
Under a new rating scheme, inspectors issued a ‘Strong standard’ rating for both Inclusion, and Personal Development and Wellbeing, while rating all other areas as ‘Expected standard’ at the school, part of the Sherborne Area Schools’ Trust (SAST).
Head of School, Lisa Thompson, welcomed the report, and said: “The inspection recognised many of the things that make Sherborne Abbey such a special place to learn, grow and work.
“We are particularly proud that inspectors recognised our inclusive culture, our commitment to personal development and the positive relationships that exist across our school family and community. This report reflects the dedication of the Abbey team, the enthusiasm of our children and the positive support of our families.”
Inspectors highlighted the school’s ambitious approach to supporting all learners, particularly pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), praising work of the school’s specialist Dragonfly and Butterfly classrooms.
The inspection also recognised the school’s rich programme of enrichment opportunities, including theatre visits, residential trips, outdoor education, sporting activities and leadership roles.
Safeguarding was judged to be effective, with inspectors confirming pupils feel safe, are well supported and know that adults will listen to them if they have concerns.
The inspection also recognised the impact of recent leadership improvements, which it said had established high expectations, strengthened the curriculum and created a clear vision for continuous improvement.
Attendance was highlighted as another area of improvement, with inspectors recognising the successful work undertaken by leaders to ensure attendance rates are now in line with, or above, national averages.
Identifying opportunities to strengthen outcomes at the end of Key Stage 2 and refine aspects of learning in the
Early Years, inspectors recognised leaders have established strong foundations and are addressing priorities systematically.
