Constance Marten and Mark Gordon found – but baby still missing

A DORSET-raised woman who went missing with her partner and new-born baby has been found – but the child remains missing.

Constance Marten, who grew up at Crichel House near Blandford, went missing on January 5 with partner Mark Gordon.

Ms Marten, 35, grew up on the Crichel estate, owned by her family until 2013 when her father, Napier Marten, sold the property.

The pair had been missing after abandoning their car on the M61 near Bolton, when the baby was believed to be just one or two days old.

It is understood they had been living a nomadic lifestyle since Ms Marten became pregnant in September last year and were believed to be in possession of money to enable them to live off-grid.

After a police hunt for the pair, at shortly before 9.30pm on Monday (February 27), a member of the public reported a sighting of Ms Marten and 48-year-old Gordon at Stanmer Villas, Brighton.

“Officers from Sussex Police attended the location and the pair were arrested,” a poliice spokesperson said.

“They remain in custody. The baby is still missing and an urgent search operation is taking place in the area.”

Anyone with information that could assist the search should call 999.
