Stolen car recovered as police tackle crime in Gillingham

FROM recovering stolen property to investigating vandalism and tackling anti-social behaviour, it has been another busy week for Gillingham’s neighbourhood policing team.

Officers have been working on a range of issues across the town and surrounding villages, while also carrying out patrols and gathering intelligence to help prevent crime.

One of the week’s successes saw a stolen vehicle recovered from Common Mead Lane, with PC Brad helping return the car to police possession.

Meanwhile, PCSO Vicky, assisted by a member of the public, tracked down a disc cutter abandoned in grassland.

Checks revealed the tool had been stolen during a building site burglary.

After being contacted by police, the owner was delighted to have the item returned after believing it had been lost for good.

The team has also been investigating reports of criminal damage with PCSO Vicky gathering CCTV evidence following vandalism at the public toilets in Gillingham High Street.

Meanwhile PC Ash has been helping investigate a series of incidents on Queen Street, obtaining CCTV footage and witness statements to identify those responsible.

Anti-social behaviour has also remained a focus, with PC Ash dealing with two separate reports during the week.

Behind the scenes, officers have been carrying out reassurance visits linked to a partial closure order, while also spending more than ten hours on foot and mobile patrols in identified hotspot areas.

Police also submitted seven pieces of intelligence linked to issues including drugs, stolen vehicles and ongoing investigations.
