‘Only travel if necessary’, says extremely busy fire service

FIREFIGHTERS from Dorchester are pleading with the public to only travel if necessary.

In a social media post this afternoon, they said crews from across the service are extremely busy dealing with flooding and rescues from water.

A spokesperson said: “Please only travel if necessary and do not drive through flood water, it sometimes can be deeper than you think.”

Firefighters even spotted a badger struggling to make its way through the floodwater.

“Even wildlife, like this badger was struggling to cross the flooded road, which we can say did make it to dry land,” added the spokesperson.
