New councillor backs vision for community hall at Mampitts Green

SHAFTESBURY Town Council has welcomed a new face to the chamber as Jenny Daultrey officially takes up her seat.

Cllr Daultrey was elected to represent the East Ward earlier this month and has already attended her first full council meeting, marking the start of her role in helping shape decisions for the town.

Originally moving to Dorset with her family in 1986, Cllr Daultrey has long-standing roots in the county.

Her children attended local schools, and she spent much of her working life in education, teaching in both maintained and independent schools until retiring in 2012.

She also served as a parent governor at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Wimborne, supporting the Special Educational Needs department.

Beyond education, Cllr Daultrey has been deeply involved in community and voluntary work.

Since 2008, she has held the role of county organiser for the Cottage Garden Society, overseeing the growth of the Dorset group into the largest of its kind in the UK.

More recently, her volunteering has brought her closer to Shaftesbury.

In March 2025 she began volunteering at Shaftesbury Abbey Museum and Gardens and has since been appointed as a trustee, supporting both staff and volunteers in preserving one of the town’s most important heritage sites.

Later in her career, Cllr Daultrey was involved in major capital building projects and witnessed the development of a new village hall near her home – an experience that shaped her interest in community infrastructure.

She has spoken of her wish to see Shaftesbury benefit from a high-quality community hall at Mampitts Green, describing such a facility as a long-term investment that could serve residents for generations.

Residents wishing to contact Cllr Daultrey can find her details on the ‘Your Councillors’ page of the Shaftesbury Town Council website.
