SHAFTESBURY’S mayor has looked back on a year marked by community spirit, shared celebrations and remembrance as 2025 draws to a close.
In a message to residents, Cllr Virginia Edwyn-Jones thanked the people and organisations who help make the town thrive.
She said: “As 2025 draws to a close, I would like to extend Shaftesbury Town Council’s heartfelt thanks to our residents, community groups, and local businesses for everything they do to support our town and one another.”
Cllr Edwyn-Jones highlighted events that brought the community together, from historic commemorations to local fundraising success.
“This year has brought many special moments of celebration, commemoration, and community spirit,” she added.
“From VE80 Day, the successful Lido crowdfunder and renovations, and Shaftesbury Wellness, to the RBL Remembrance Parade gathering at the newly restored war memorial, these events have highlighted the dedication, pride, and kindness that make our town such a special place.”
Reflecting on her role, the mayor said: “It is a huge privilege to serve as your mayor again.
“It’s such a great opportunity to learn more about how our town ticks and to meet all the many people who work and volunteer tirelessly to make Shaftesbury such a special place.”
She ended by wishing residents well for the festive season and a happy, healthy New Year.
