ROKit choirs encourage locals to find their voice

LOOKING for something fun to do in the New Year? Well, ROKiT, which has choirs in Gillingham, Bradford and Wincanton, is offering local people the chance to find their voice.

The choirs sing modern music and join forces to appear at local events and concerts.
Choir owner Mark James said: “At ROKiT, I would say about 70 per cent of the people that come in on their first night say they cannot sing or have never done anything like it before.
“But once they have come along for a few weeks and their confidence grows, they start achieving things they didn’t think possible.”
He said choirs are a great way to challenge yourself, meet new people, work towards a goal and be part of something exciting.
“We like to be fun – it is more important than the music in most cases,” he added. “Yes, we like to get the songs right, but without the fun there is no point.
“Our favourite performances have been flash mobs where we just turn up in the middle of a crowded shop or local event unannounced and start singing.
“Our latest flash mob was in Wincanton at the Christmas Fair. All the choir left buzzing, and this also rubbed off on the audiences watching as they could really get into it, too.”
Mark also likes to support other choirs and music groups in the area. “We are just one style of choir out there – the good thing is that there are many types of music and there are choirs and groups that will fit with what you want to do,” he said.
“Although we would welcome anyone to come along to ROKiT, we also encourage people to find the group that suits them best. Music is for everyone and once you find the place that you fit, you will never look back.”
