Planning permission sought – for illuminated pencil sharpener

A RETROSPECTIVE planning application has been submitted for permission to install an illuminated pencil sharpener.

The application, to Somerset Council, has been made by Pencil Studio Ltd, for The Old Fire Station, in Christchurch Street West, Frome.

Bearing the words ‘pencil studio’ and ‘it all starts here’, the sign was installed at the design and advertising agency as the applicants were unaware it would require planning permission.

“The sign was installed to allow clients and other visitors clearly see where our building was,” the application said.

“The sign would not be lit up all day and would be scheduled to come on only Monday to Friday and set times for morning and then afternoon.

“The sign would not be lit over weekends, early in the morning or late at night.

“We understand that permission is needed but were unaware of this when the sign was installed.

“The illumination of the sign is low so is not a blazing eyesore in any way.”
