Bringing together voices from around the world through stitch.
Hosted by Defashion Dorset, this exciting exhibition will be on display at Hawkers Farm, Stour Provost, Dorset on 9th November-5th December.
The Red Dress is a 14 year award-winning, global, collaborative embroidery project conceived by artist Kirstie Mcleod.
The garment provides and artistic platform for individuals around the World (predominantly women), many of whom are vulnerable and live in poverty, to tell their story through embroidery.
The Red Dress has been exhibited in various galleries and museums worldwide and we are excited that it will be on display in Dorset as part of its global tour.
Alongside The Red Dress will be an exhibition of panels created by vulnerable women supported by the Sambhali Trust in Rajasthan in India. The women each produced a work telling their story and what it is to be a woman in India. The empowerment of disadvantaged women and children in Rajasthan through the Sambhali Trust has been Govind Rathore’s driving force for over 17 years, with a mission to break the cycle of poverty and dependence by providing under-privileged communities with a safe space and vocational training.
The exhibition is free, to find out more go to www.hawkersfarm.org
