After Karina’s successful exhibitions in 2023 at Thelma Hulbert Gallery Open Exhibition, Southwest Academy Open Exhibition and Winner of Young Artist of Southwest. She had taken a break to pursue her career in landscaping. Due to the high level of interest in her artwork. She has decided to pick up her brushes again and pursue her passion of oil paints.
Initially working with small-scale watercolours, Karina transitioned into oil painting after receiving her first set of paints. Beginning with portraits of friends, she developed a distinctive style characterised by deep, dark tones, careful attention to detail, and a strong sense of depth. Her fascination with form led her to study marble sculpture—particularly the drama and realism of Baroque sculptors—which continues to influence her work today.
Karina’s current body of work explores the intersection between human presence and classical stillness. Blending still life and figurative painting, she reimagines her subjects as sculptural forms—transforming living people into marble-like figures rendered in oil. Hands, in particular, play a central role in her practice, often commissioned for weddings and personal pieces, capturing moments of connection, intimacy, and memory.
Her paintings invite the viewer to come closer—to trace the contours of a face, a hand, a gesture—yet they remain deliberately out of reach. There is a quiet tension in this: forms that appear tangible and solid, yet are ultimately “untouchable.” This interplay between realism and illusion gives her work a striking, almost timeless quality.
Now preparing for her first solo exhibition in Dorset in May 2026. Karina present a collection that reflects both her technical growth and her unique artist voice. This exhibition offers an opportunity to experience the work of a young emerging artist. Whose practice bridges classical influence with a contemporary sensibility.
