Wincanton continue fine start to season

Wincanton Cricket Club have started life in Division 5 in some style with 5 wins in a row to go top of the league.

On Saturday, Bridgwater Pointers made the trip to the Recreation Ground in a highly anticipated 1st vs 3rd fixture.

Bridgwater won the toss and put Wincanton in to bat, a decision they would regret shortly after. A quick start from Alfie Collings and Alex White saw them put together a 77 run partnership inside the first 8 overs. Collings, who passed his 50 in that time, lost his opening partner when White was caught on 18.

Important knocks from Dan Legg (38) and Ben Hurlock (37) helped Wincanton set a total of 235/8 from their 40 overs.

With the target set, the Bridgwater side had to put in an impressive batting display to come away with the victory.

Early wickets from Mark Mitchell and Ian Miller put Wincanton in the driving seat to pick up a fifth consecutive win.

Wickets from Matthew Morton (2), James Hicks (2) and Charlie Down (1) put Wincanton in touching distance before Mark Mitchell completed the 135 run win with the wicket of Will Rose.

Wincanton travel to West Coker & Hardington this weekend before returning back home on Saturday 24th June with the visit of Wemdon to the Recreation Ground.
