A303 closed after crash as heavy rainfall batters Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset

UPDATE: The A303 eastbound is closed after a crash.

The route is closed between the A37 Podimore roundabout and the A359 Hazelgrove roundabout after an incident.

A WEATHER warning remains in place across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset today as heavy rain continues to batter the south west.

Met Office experts have warned people to expect disruption as rain continues throughout the day, with a yellow warning in place until 6pm on Monday (December 4).

They said people should expect:
* Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
* Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
* Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer

Among roads affected are the A3030 at Caundle Marsh, which has seen floodwaters building overnight and this morning.

The A303 through Somerset and Wiltshire is also seeing large amounts of surface water causing delays for drivers, while numerous bus services across the county are delayed, cancelled, or diverted.

Other roads closed include:
A356 – flooding at A303 junction to Crewkerne, impassable from there to past West Chinnock
A358 Donyatt – closed due to flooding
Stoford near Yeovil. Flooded either side of Yeovil Junction station
A37 Chilthorne Domer – closed due to a crash

“Showery outbreaks of rain today, heavy in places, giving some localised flooding,” a forecaster said.

Temperatures would reach around 9C, they said, before more showers hit tonight.

“Further showers in places this evening and overnight,” the forecaster added.

“Clearer spells are possible, mainly in the west. Feeling chilly, but generally windy and therefore staying frost-free.”

Temperatures would dip to around 3C, they said.

On Tuesday, “occasional showers” are forecast, with some heavy, before clouds make way for some sunny spells.

However, rain is set to return and linger for the rest of the week, they warned.
