Water firm wants to build new base at Henstridge Airfield

A WATER firm wants to build new premises at Henstridge Airfield.

Agent AR Dalziel has applied to Somerset Council for permission for new premises on behalf of NPB Utilities Ltd.

Currently based in Yeovil, the company is seeking permission for two buildings, which would house offices, a store and a workshop.

“The site is currently empty with no structure on site and is located within the existing industrial area located just off the Henstridge Airfield,” the application said.

“My client currently rents a site in Yeovil but it is substantially smaller than this new site and can accommodate more vehicles and not impose on any neighbouring businesses.”

NPB counts the Ministry of Defence and Wessex Water among its clients, the plans say, providing a 24-hour call out service.

“Since the relocation of my client’s business to Yeovil, the business has continued to grow and due to pressure from an ever-increasing order book, a new larger site is required,” the application added.

The new buildings would be constructed using a steel frame with corrugated cladding, the plans said, providing 880 sq m of floor space.

“A new access is not to be formed,” it said. “Access to the site will be via Camp Road.

“The standard of existing roads makes them suitable for the proposed use of the site and this will not change.”

Parking areas at the development would include electric charging points and disabled spaces, with space for large vehicles to turn should it be required.

“The building is in a simple form to retain the character of the area and reflects those previously granted permission on the surrounding sites,” the application added.

“It will have no adverse affect on the existing environment and will provide new local employment opportunities.”
