Warning over bank card scam in Sherborne

SCAMMERS have tried to steal bank information from a Sherborne resident, police have said.

The scammers, pretending to be part of the police, called the victim up to inform them they have arrested someone who is in possession of a cloned bank card linked to the victim’s account.

The victim was then asked to provide their bank details to assist the ‘police’ in their investigation.

Police will not:

  • Ask for bank details or PIN
  • Ask to transfer funds to another account
  • Ask for cash or cards to be handed to a courier
  • Ask for ‘assistance’ in an investigation by doing any of the above
  • State you are committing a crime by not replying

Victims of scams, fraud or online crime can report it to Action Fraud via their website or by calling 0300 123 2040 (Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm).
