Van seized and driver arrested following trailer thefts in rural Dorset

A DRIVER of a van believed to be involved in trailer thefts across the county has been arrested by police.

Officers from Dorset Police’s Rural Crime Team located the van on Wednesday, November 27 after it had been targeted for its use in two trailer thefts in rural Dorset.

Following the arrest of the driver, several power tools were found in the van following a search which were subsequently taken by police for identification.

“The vehicle was also carrying a large amount of green waste, so it was seized under the environmental protection act,” a police spokesperson said.

“We have liaised with our partners in Dorset Council who will now take control of the vehicle and investigate any waste carrier offences.

“The driver of the vehicle was interviewed in custody, and a relevant property search was conducted.

“We will now be preparing our evidence for a charging decision.”
