Van crashed into pillar supporting building in Dorchester

TWO men are believed to have fled the scene of a crash which saw a van bring down a support pillar of a building.

The incident, in High East Street, Dorchester, happened at around 1.47am on Saturday morning (September 26), police said.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said a white Vauxhall Vivaro van “collided with a building in High East Street, causing a support pillar to collapse”.

“The van is reported to have stopped a short distance from the incident, with two male occupants leaving the scene on foot,” they said.

A man aged in his 20s later made contact with police and is assisting with the investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.

PC Jake Ward, of Dorset Police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries into this incident and I am keen to speak with any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.

“I would also like to speak to any motorists who may have capture relevant dashcam footage, as well as residents or business with any home CCTV or doorbell camera footage that might assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information about the crash should contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting reference 55260150758. They can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
