Vale Pantry gets boost after Wincanton Racecourse meeting called off

A VALE charity got a welcome boost after some bad news at Wincanton Racecourse.

Racing due to take place at the Somerset course on Thursday (January 18) has been called off due to freezing temperatures.

However, not wanting to waste food ordered for the day, course bosses contacted the Vale Pantry, putting them under starter’s orders to collect and get the food to families in need.

“A massive thank you to Wincanton Racecourse for their donation today,” said a pantry spokesperson.

“It’s never great to hear that events have to be canceled, but the going’s not good and racing has been abandoned.

“As they honoured their order for catering, the fabulous Ian and Rachel called us and we were under starter’s orders to collect, to share the love in the community.

“We are chomping at the bit to fill those packed lunch boxes for tomorrow.”

Racing is due to return to Wincanton on February 1.

Wincanton Racecourse said of Thursday’s meeting: “Raceday has been abandoned due to freezing temperatures.

“Tickets will be automatically refunded and all hospitality bookings will be contacted by our team.

“Thank you for your patience.”
