Tourism centre to TIC right boxes in final slot

South Somerset TIC has reached the final of Visitor Information Service of the Year for the second year running.

The South Somerset Tourism team are up for Visitor Information Service of the Year in the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards 2019-20. South Somerset Visitor Information Centre provides visitors with advice and a gift shop at a popular picnic site on the A303 – a perfect setting for an introduction to the area.

The wealth of attractions, activities and beautiful countryside, as well as excellent accommodation and events, provide many opportunities for the knowledgeable staff to promote the county.

They also promote events, sell tickets and stock a range of locally produced goods. Supervisor Bev Stapp said: “Announcing the finalists has been delayed many times due to covid, but the wait has been worth it for such fantastic news. After such a busy and successful year in 2019-2020 who could have envisaged what was in store for 2020- 21, but the team are busy working behind the scenes to ensure the information centre and gift shop will be well stocked for as soon as the lockdown is lifted.”

John Clark, portfolio holder for Economic Development, said, “It has been an exceptionally difficult 12 months for our tourism businesses, but when circumstances allow South Somerset is in a great position to benefit from the expected increase in staycations.”

South Somerset Tourism are proud to be sponsoring the important Accessible and Inclusive Award at this year’s event.

The team will discover if they have won Gold, Silver or Bronze at the online Awards Day on March 18.
