STEAM train lovers can get aboard for a carol service at Sherborne Abbey on Tuesday (December 6).

LMS Stanier 4-6-0 ‘Black Five’ is stopping at Gillingham at 12.48 and Templecombe at 13.05 before arriving at Sherborne at 13.15.

It will go on to Yeovil Junction Steam Centre where it will be serviced, arriving at 13.25 and leaving at 16.30. Visitors will be able to get a close-up view of the engine.

The return leg will see the loco leave Sherborne at 16.50, pass Templecombe at 17.00 and Gillingham about 17.10.

Some 842 ‘Black Five’ engines were built between 1934-51, of which 18 are preserved and six have main line certification.
