THE Queen’s Arms in Corton Denham, near Sherborne, has been named Pub of the Year by the Food Lifestyle magazine.
The competition sees pubs from across the south west – from Cornwall to Gloucester – compete for the coveted title, with readers of the magazine casting thousands of votes for their favourites.
Held over two rounds of voting where a shortlist to five pubs was drawn up, the winners were announced at the awards ceremony held at Nancarrow Farm in Cornwall at the beginning of October.
Director of The Queen’s Arms, Doune Mackenzie-Francis, said: “We were completely thrilled to win the award!
“I have to thank our team as they have made us what we are and it’s a great boost for us all.”
The Queen’s Arms is situated in the attractive village of Corton Deham, well known for the scenic walks along the ridge and nearby Cadbury Castle.
A spokesperson for Food Lifestyle said: “Now in its third year of operating, the pub has a reputation for fantastic food and warm friendly service.
“All components of every dish are made in-house, overseen by head chef Rich Townsend and his team, from the freshly baked milk buns for the burgers through to the black garlic ketchup, every element is made with care and attention to detail.
“Offering a selection of fresh pub classics such as fish and chips and The Queen’s Arms burger, through to more elevated food such as lightly cured sea bream, purple radish, red chilli, yuzu and soy dressing, with toasted sesame, to dry aged Denver steak, poached carrots, black garlic ketchup, roasted hazelnut pangrattato and sauce Robert, there is much to delight local customers and those coming from further away.
“This same attention is brought through to the bar where freshly made cordials of ginger are used for home-made fiery ginger beer, and celery salt is made by hand each week for the signature bloody Mary’s that are so popular on a Sunday.”
The Queen’s Arms now takes part in the monthly Sherborne market, bringing their freshly made focaccia, baguettes, tomato relish and much more to the town for customer to enjoy at home.
The Queen’s Arms will be at the next market on November 17.
There will also be the opportunity to pre-purchase Christmas hampers, with all items made in house, such as the bloody Mary, with the signature celery salt, through to mulled wine with in-house flavour infused vodka.
To celebrate the award, the pub is offering 20% off lunch from Monday to Thursday – all you have to do is mention ‘Pub of The Year’ when booking online or on the phone.
