A PUB in a Dorset village has been recognised with a prestigious award.
The Penny Tap in Sixpenny Handley was recently awarded the best rural pub in East Dorset by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
The Penny Tap was opened following the relocation of a small brewery and the closure of the last remaining pub in the area.
Master Thatcher Nigel Turton said he was “delighted” to have been recognised by CAMRA.
He added: “We showcase local beers and cider, and have created a welcoming family friendly venue.”
According to CAMRA, when the Sixpenny Brewery moved out of the village to larger premises elsewhere the brewery tap also closed.
A group of locals worked hard to establish a suitable outlet to fill the void and opted for the Sports Pavilion and have since created a bar and cellar.
It provides a focus for village sports and social events. A wide range of local microbreweries are on offer.
