Superbiker Brad ‘improving’ in hospital

Stalbridge superbiker Brad Jones is gradually improving in intensive care after his horror crash at Brands Hatch.

The 25-year-old is largely able to breathe for himself, with the aid of oxygen, meaning air tubes down his throat could be removed. Doctors at King’s College Hospital, London, are also gradually cutting down on his sedation although he remains in an induced coma. Brad suffered head and chest injuries in the crash four weeks ago and is having ongoing neurological assessment.

He also punctured both lungs and broke his collarbone, pelvis and ribs.
Brad has successfully undergone two operations and was due a full, three- hour MRI body scan to further determine the extent of his injuries.

“I am feeling a bit more optimistic than I was in early August,” said his grandfather Bob Jones. “But until he comes through this, we won’t know what is going to happen in future. We just carry on.”

Brad’s stay in hospital is set to continue for some weeks, and doctors have already warned that he faces specialist rehabilitation.
His parents Tim and Maxine and girlfriend Courtney Jones have been at the hospital since he was airlifted from the racetrack to the hospital.

They are able to visit him for an hour at lunchtime, and an hour in the evening. But only one visitor is allowed at a time, so each can only spend 20 minutes at the bedside. They are staying in an AirBnB opposite the hospital, and relay news back to Bob and the rest of the family.

Meanwhile, a fundraising page set up to help with rehab and any future treatment has passed £30,000.
Several thousands more have been raised through auctions and sale of caps, T-shirts and stickers.
The family has said that any money donated will be used to give Bradley the best possible recovery, and that anything left over will be donated to the air ambulance and the hospital.
