Stunning art on show at charity exhibition this weekend

A stunning art exhibition this weekend is the culmination of a creative collaboration of acclaimed artists to raise money for The Trussell Trust and St Andrew’s Church in Donhead St Andrew.

Still life artist Venitia Syms, whose floral paintings were featured at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show, Anna McDowell collage creator based on traditional Dorset buttons, Elizabeth Hazelwood with wonderfully intricate paintings, sculptor Pauline Dawkins, who created the deer installation from recycled wire on the roundabout outside of Aldi and Lynda Appleby, who was commissioned as a programme illustrator for BBC2 are among the group of artists who will be showcasing their work.

Organisers Pauline Dawkins-White and Lynda Appleby are thrilled with the support they have received from their fellow artists and the quality of the work that has been submitted.

Lynda said: “We hope that this will be a very exciting weekend for both artists and visitors to the exhibition.”

The medieval St Andrew’s underwent extensive refurbishment to enable the building to be used as a cultural space for productions, concerts, exhibitions and classes.

Sadly, soon after it reopened in 2020, it was forced to close once more when the coronavirus pandemic struck. The artists hope the exhibition will serve as a way of ‘opening up the beautiful space’ to the public, adding to the cultural life of the area while supporting local charities.

The exhibition starts with a private view this evening by invitation and is open to everyone tomorrow, ending on Monday, November 29.
