Stower Provost Primary School goes down to the woods

Children from Stower Provost Primary School had a wonderful surprise when they visited Duncliffe Wood near Shaftesbury.

The Years 2 to 6 children were able to see heavy horses working in the forest after they enjoyed a walk at the Woodland Trust site.

Kate Mobbs-Morgan and her colleagues, Toby and Merlin, paused their work to explain to the children how the Ardennes horses work with their handlers and answered questions. Children then watched while the horses pulled logs down the hill using chains attached to their harnesses.

Head Teacher, James Stanford, said: “We are very grateful to the site manager for arranging this experience for the children at short notice. The children had a wide range of questions for Kate and her colleagues and were excited to see the horses being worked in a very different way from anything they had seen before.”
