Silhouette Soldier tribute to village’s fallen

VILLAGERS in Spetisbury have erected a Silhouette Soldier to pay tribute to those from the village who died in both world wars.

They stumped up the £1,500 cost of the project, with a donation from Spetisbury Parish Council towards the purchase of the soldier, within six weeks of a fundraising appeal being launched.

The project was completed with assistance from Gary Kempster Plant Hire, which carried out the initial groundwork; M B Wilkes, which gave the aggregates for the soldier base and sand bags; and Wimborne Turf, which gave the turf required to make good the earth work around the monument.

Villagers hope the roadside monument will help the thousands of people who pass through Spetisbury each year remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in times of conflict.
