POLICE are appealing for information after a treasured garden statue was stolen from a home in Gillingham.

The large sandstone-coloured ornament, featuring two greyhound heads, was taken from outside a property in Gyllas Way sometime between 8.45pm on Friday, June 5, and 8am on Saturday, June 6.

Officers said the statue has significant sentimental value to its owner and have released an image in the hope someone recognises it.

PC Michael Divers, of Dorset Police, said: “This statue was of huge sentimental value to the victim, and we are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved in its theft and return it to its owner.

“We are issuing an image of the statue, and I am asking anyone who has come across this item being offered for sale locally or online in suspicious circumstances to please get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from anyone with information about the theft that could assist our enquiries.”
