Row over Wincanton show by controversial pundit Katie Hopkins

A SHOW by controversial right-wing commentator Katie Hopkins is set to go ahead in Wincanton next month.

The outspoken political pundit promises to ‘spare no blushes’ during her first solo tour, which is running across the UK next month.

Among the sold-out dates is a show at The Dolphin in Wincanton.

However, the event has not gone down well with all residents, who have taken to social media to slam the gig.

One poster wrote: “Katie Hopkins has historically had controversial opinions, but do we really need her bringing her racist, transphobic, homophobic and discriminatory attitude to Wincanton?

“Other venues throughout the UK are already cancelling this tour, I’d urge the people of Wincanton to have a think about this one.

“I’m no ‘snowflake’ and I’m not into cancel culture and believe in freedom of speech, but this is something else entirely.”

Hopkins, a former Apprentice contestant and Sun columnist, has courted controversy over her vehement right-wing views.

In 2015, a column by Hopkins published by The Sun featured a description of migrants as being ‘like cockroaches’, provoking widespread condemnation.

Soon after, she said the best way to solve the refugee crisis was to ‘burn all the boats in North Africa’.

However, some sprang to her defence on social media over the Wincanton date.

One wrote: “I fully support her and her opinions. I do not necessarily agree with everyone but she does talk sense about most topics.

“Anything we say these days offends someone, but that’s on them. Freedom of speech.”

While another said: “No one is being forced to attend her event and if they don’t like it, simply don’t go! But you can’t say you agree with everyone having a right to an opinion and then in the next sentence say, but except certain people.”
