Route created for church charity dog walkers in Sherborne

DOG walkers in Sherborne could do their bit for a church charity fundraiser next weekend.

Saturday, September 9, is the date of the Dorset Historic Churches Trust charity fundraiser, Ride+Stride.

The event raises money for repairs to churches across the county, with people pledging to walk and raise sponsorship cash for the cause.

And Sherborne Abbey organiser, Hilary Leavey, has devised a route suitable for dog-owners that takes in 14 current or former places of worship within the town.

“Anyone interested in taking part can see the suggested route on a board in the Abbey’s Lady Chapel at the east end of the building,” she said.

“I am hoping participants will either secure sponsorship or make a donation to Ride+Stride.”

She said the dogs of the town seem up for the challenge!

Those who have taken part can apply for a rosette to the Trust representative in the Abbey on September 9 after finishing their walk.

The Dorset Historic Churches Trust helps churches across the county with the costs of essential repairs – often to buildings which date back to medieval times, with small communities to come up with the funds needed to keep them in good repair.
