Popular village Vale pub on the market for £460,000

A POPULAR Vale pub is up for sale – and could be yours for £460,000.

The Bird in Hand, on the A357 in Henstridge, is on the market with agent Symonds & Sampson.

Dating back to the 1700s, the building was originally two cottages and became a cider house until becoming a fully licensed public house in the 1960s.

It has been in the same ownership for more than four decades, the listing said, and boasts a bar with a “wealth of character”.

“There are fireplaces at either end, one being of rustic brick construction with an inset feature bread oven,” it said.

As well as a bar, there is a side games room, complete with dartboard and TV. On a higher level is a skittle alley and function room, with seating for 50 covers.

As well as a kitchen, the property boasts a large storage room, ground floor level refrigerated beer cellar and bottle stores with a rear delivery door on the same level, as well as ladies’ and gentlemen’s toilets.

On the first floor is owner’s accommodation – featuring three double bedrooms, bathroom with over-bath shower and a walk through sitting room.

Outside, there is a car park with space for around five vehicles, as well as a lower-level paved forecourt with covered smoking shelter and tables and chairs.

“The business has been in the present ownership since 1981 and has been the hub of the local community, with many groups and organisations meeting here and a strong sports following with skittles and darts,” the listing added.

Lovely pub. I haven’t been in there for 25 years . Reason being that I now live abroad. Hopefully somebody will keep it going.
